The year of 2012 was certainly a year for the boys here at Morkerbook Kennels. It was also a year of excitement with us having Swedish Vallhunds back in the ring. They are the brother and sister team of Ch Dlarah Bitter Sweet Symphany and Ch Dlarah Cheers Drink To That. We want to thank Amanda Smith for allowing us to have these lovely specimens of the breed and hope we do her proud.
Grand Champion Morkerbook Burning Flame was the 'first cab off the rank' to hit the big prizes for 2012 when he went Reserve in Show and Australian Bred in Show on the Saturday and then Reserve in Group and Australian Bred in Show on the Sunday at the Mt Morgan Shows.
The next was in March when our new Vallhund boy Dlarah Bitter Sweet Symphany went Baby in Show at the Callide Valley Open Show. Our young kelpie male, Ch Morkerbook Sun Warrior, also went Best in Show at the same show. What a great day that was! The results didn't stop there though with Ch Morkerbook Sun Warrior winning Best in Group and Intermediate in Show on Saturday and Reserve in Group and Intermediate in Group on Sunday.
With the onset of Easter came some more great results with Grand Champion Morkerbook Burning Flame achieving Best in Group at Gladstone, and THEN, Dlarah Bitter Sweet Symphany going Reserve in Group to him! This little guy was only 7 months old. What a thrill!
The next few months saw Ch Morkerbook Sun Warrior do some great winning with Reserve in Show at Gayndah Show Society and Biggenden Show Society. What a great honour to receive these awards.
At the end of May our two Swedish Vallhunds had achieved their Australian Champion titles making them now known as Ch Dlarah Bitter Sweet Symphany and Ch Dlarah Cheers Drink to That.
The next title to be gained was for our young kelpie from Jan Scholtz in Melbourne. Ch Kusco Blinkndare Topaz has had stiff competition amongst the boys this year, but held her own picking up numerous class in group awards.
From July 1st 2012 a new title was established for our show dogs. This title was a SUPREME champion title which is to be awarded to dogs that have 1000 points and have won either 3 Best in Shows OR 10 Best in Groups under different judges. Our boy Grand Champion Morkerbook Burning Flame on July 7th 2012 became eligible for this title, making him the first Supreme Champion Kelpie in Australia.
Then on 16th September I entered Grand Champion Morkerbook Suntucht Bell (who was 1 week shy of her 11th birthday) at one of our local shows, where she also attained her Supreme Championship, making her the first kelpie female in Queensland to achieve this award. She moved so well, that her handler on the day (who shows and owns Shepherds), had difficulty keeping up with her! What an honour for our country bred Kelpies.
At the completion of the year, the final award for Morkerbook Kennels was when Ch Morkerbook Sun Warrior was awarded the No. 1 Australian Kelpie in the All Breeds Competition for the Dogzonline Pointscore in Australia and Ch Dlarah Cheers Drink to That was awarded the No. 1 Rising Star award for the Swedish Vallhunds (Australia). Ch Morkerbook Sun Warrior was placed 4th in the Working Dog group for the All Breeds competition for Queensland, where Cattle Dogs, Kelpies and a Stumpy Tail made up 13 of the top 50 places. A wonderful result for our Aussie working breeds! We wish to thank all those judges who gave our dogs numerous awards this year and especially Irene Hayton who has been a wonderful help. Thanks to Jan Scholtz, Jan Phillips and Daniel Weedon for their photographic expertise.
